I was sitting on my porch swing reading. Lost in my reading, the time passed quickly. I was truly enjoying my book. The title of my read? The bible.
Some people think reading the bible is like a meal of bread and water- boring, bland, mundane. But I think reading the bible is more like a treat of wine and chocolate- delicious, decadent, heady.
There is much excitement! Drama! Murder! Scandal! Sex! There’s humor and wisdom. Secrets and mystery! Destruction and miracles! Adventure and romance!
There are characters you will love and characters you will hate. Liars and truth tellers. Heroes and heroines. You will read about folks in the bible and think “I’ve done that. That’s me.” There are folks that will make you think “That’s how I want to be.”
What kind of bible reader are you?
If you are the bread and water kind, perhaps reading out of duty, let me challenge you. Sit down with your book and before you open it, ask God to show you the wonder. Ask him to let you fall in love with His word. Let the living word of God become alive for you, sink into your heart, and forever change your mind.
