Grace is Messy

Grace is always willing to get messy!

Who the heck are the Joneses?

It’s been said that, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”.

What do you think?

How do you feel when someone is being a copycat?

Maybe the guy that bought the same shoes you just bought LAST WEEK…or the girl who bought YOUR shoes!

The older folks say, “Oh, they’re just trying to keep up with the Joneses”.

Question:  Who the heck are the Joneses?!

And why should you want to be like them?

Answer:  They’re this made-up family that everyone tries to be like: with the bigger house, better job, fancy car, and big vacation.

So why do we do it?

My take?  We’re not comfortable in our own skin, content in our own lives, satisfied with our own wife or husband (or kids), and we hate our jobs.

We think the grass is going to be greener on the other side, until we realize that the grass is really only greener over the septic tank.

So…imitation.

There are imitation sweetners.

Imitation boobs.

Imitation handbags.

There are lots of fakes in the world.

But… I want to be an imitator.

im·i·tate

[im-i-teyt] verb (used with object), -tat·ed, -tat·ing.

  • to follow or endeavor to follow as a model or example: to imitate an author’s style; to imitate an older brother.
  • to mimic; impersonate: The students imitated the teacher behind her back.
  • to make a copy of; reproduce closely.
  • to have or assume the appearance of; simulate; resemble.

(from dictionary.com)

I want “to have or assume the appearance of” Christ:

  • In what I say
  • What I do
  • How I approach others.
I want “to follow or endeavor to follow as a model or example: to imitate an author’s style; to imitate an older brother.”  How neat that dictionary.com said, “to imitate an older brother”!   The Bible mentions Jesus a few times as our “older brother”.  The Bible also mentions Jesus as “the author and perfecter of our faith”!

Actively Training to Imitate Christ.

Who are you trying to imitate?

ATTIC,
Steve
